The Turkish bath (hammam) is a centuries-old ritual of cleansing and relaxation. After a busy touring day in Cappadocia, a hammam is one of the best ways to relax body and mind.

The hammam ritual

The traditional experience starts with sweating and unwinding on the warm marble navel stone. An attendant then exfoliates your skin with a kese scrub mitt and gives a rich foam massage. The session ends with a warm rinse and a hot drink in the relaxation area. Depending on the package, extras such as an aromatherapy massage or face mask can be added.

Who is it for?

It suits couples, groups of friends and solo travellers. Some hammams have separate sections for women and men, while others offer private sessions for couples.

The traditional ritual with scrub and foam massage usually takes 45 minutes to an hour; adding a massage makes it longer.

After warming up on the heated marble stone, your skin is scrubbed with a kese mitt, followed by a foam massage. The ritual usually ends with rest and tea.

It depends on the hammam: some have separate sections, others mixed or private sessions. Tell us your preference in your inquiry.

We recommend that pregnant guests and anyone with heart, circulation or blood pressure conditions consult their doctor before using the heat.
