Avanos Pottery Workshop

Cappadocia

Make your own pot with red clay from the Kızılırmak river under a master potter's guidance in Avanos. Fun for children and adults.

Hands shaping a clay pot on a pottery wheel

Avanos has been famous for pottery for centuries thanks to the red clay carried by the Kızılırmak river. In local workshops you can shape your own pot on a traditional foot-powered potter's wheel with a master potter.

What happens in the workshop?

The master first shows how the clay is prepared and how the wheel works, then it's your turn. In a short time you can shape a simple bowl or vase. Many workshops also explain tile painting and traditional motifs.

Who is it for?

No experience is needed; it's fun and educational for children, couples and groups. Avanos is a stop on the Red Tour, so it is easy to combine with a tour day.
